Plant List

 PlantNumberSpacingSpacing in RowsNotes
Basil 47"5" x 9"Pre May, sow seeds of basil indoors on a sunny window sill or in a propagator in a greenhouse After May, you can sow basil direct into garden soil. As soon as the seeds have germinated, sow more to keep supplies constant. However, one sowing is usually sufficient for a summer's supplies Bought a plant from Aldi. Transferred it to a pot near back door 23/8/20.
Beans (French)
 Nautica
97"5" x 11"22/6/20 Sowed 5 in sq ft bed 1. Keep well watered. Pick young beans regularly. 8-12 weeks. Pick the pods when they reach 10-15 cm long. Take care not to pull too hard and loosen the plant. Pick fresh beans several times per week to prevent pods ripening and to encourage more pods to be produced. Sowed 4 in pot outside back door.
Beetroot
 Detroit 2
185"3" x 7"Use bolt-resistant varieties for early sowings under cloches or fleece in late February or early March. You can sow without protection from late March onwards. Sow three seeds at 10cm (4in) spacings, 2.5cm (1in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart, at fortnightly intervals from mid-April to July for a succession of tender, tasty roots. Beetroot sown from June onwards can be used for storing in winter. Feeding rarely required. Sow into good organic soil and maybe add a few granules of Growmore all purpose. Use egg shell barrier for Slugs and snails early on. 8 - 10 weeks for golf ball size. Twist tops off to prevent bleeding. Sowed outside 20/5/20 same day as harvesting radish from this square foot Sowed again 29/5/20 Sowed again July. 29/8/20 sowed inbetween strawberry plants and as at 3/11/20 there's no sign of them.
