Plan Notes

8/14/2023 Hot Wet summer lots of rain almost everyday. Soil- was new didn't test it and didn't add enough nutrients to it. Added manure and peat moss and perlite before planting. Was not enough though. Vegetables Peas- did not germinate at all none of them. I believe this is due to the soil not properly nourished Lettuce- Great Lakes- No luck with any. Red Romaine from true leaf did well. Buttercrunch not so well. Kale and Swiss Chard- Did well. Planted true leaf swiss chard Cabbage- Did ok. Produced small heads Collards- Started off slow then grew fast. I let them be a trap crop for the cabbage moth. Will plant some in fall garden for fall crop to the table. Broccoli- Three small heads, one flowered and bolted. Brussels- Still Growing as of 8/14 not doing well though. Cucumbers- Of the four types planted only produced 3 small cucumbers. I believe this may be due to soil. Salsa Bed loved it-- All things did well except onions. Next year will plant the cilantro and the green onions in front of tomatoes. Onions- Didn't grow well after the loads of rainfall. Pulled early. Garlic- Didn't grow well Pulled early. Beans- Abundant harvest. Yellow beans will be my pick next year. Corn- Slow to tassel. No cobs producing. Didn't fertilize enough. Potatoes- Small crop. Got lazy and didn't hill them in grow bags. Tomatillos- Grown in pots. One produced well the other something ate all the leaves. Tomatoes- Ones grown in pots didn't do so hot. The ones in the beds did great. Spinach- None grew. Soil? Carrots- Small harvest didn't do well. Could have been the soil. Pppers- Some produced a few fruit the rest none. I didn't pop off the new buds when first planted or top them. 8/14 Added manure to beds 2,4,5,6,7,14 Will grow less corn next year.
