Plan Notes
2/6/17 Mark Cain Notes: Basil:Only sow in GH once Broccoli: Spring/summer--Expect only in June (Dripping Springs only grows fall broccoli; spring broccoli is quick to bolt. Fall- Expect in late October; cover w/insect barrier Cabbage: (Same notes as for broccoil.) Cantalopes: Start in cups mid-April through early summer. Chinese Cabbage: Expect early October Cilantro: Not going to do well in heat (cover w/insect barrier; we may not have it in June & July. Better to expect September to frost. Dill: (Same notes as for cilantro.) Eggplant: TP: 5/1, 5/8; Expect to bear 6 weeks after TP date: ~6/12, 6/19. Kale: Spring--5 weeks in GH, Summer/fall--3 weeks in GH Lettuce (Head): Only expect Panisee & Muir in cool weather and Magenta in warm weather. 3 weeks in GH, expect to bear 5 weeks after TP. 1' TP spacing Lettuce (Leaf): Spring--Sow 3/1, Fall--DON'T DS until 9/1. Expect 10/1 to frost. 6" TP spacing. Onions:Shipping 2/27 Peas (Sugar Snap): May not be ready until mid-May. Peppers: 3 months in GH, bears 2 months after TP. Red Ace may bear by mid-June. Lunchbox will start to bear early July. Potatoes: Shipping 3/6 Pumpkin: (Same notes as cantalopes.) Spinach: No variety does well in heat. True spinach season is 10/1-4/1. Best grown over winter in a high tunnel. Sweet Potatoes:Shipping 5/22; hold for 2 wks in water to bounce back & root. Watermelon: (Same notes as cantalopes & pumpkins.) Tomatoes: Spring--GH to TP: 2 months; Summer--GH to TP: 1 month; TP to bear: 2 months; Expect to start bearing mid-June.
